Last year, my new year resolution was to make 2012 my year. I envisioned myself taking charge of my life and making it better. I gave myself goals: seek new career opportunities; be more patient with my son; and improve my relationship with my wife to regain trust and intimacy.
All was going smooth, until the second part of 2012.
For example, while on vacation, I noticed unauthorized charges on my bank card. The bank froze my account until I received a new debit card. A few weeks later, I noticed unauthorized charges on my "new" bank card. Again, I was reissued a new debit card.
Soon after returning home after our two week vacation, I noticed a flooded backyard. A few days later, I received a water bill for $1,800. Then I had a $800 root canal. Then it was the car's ntransmission, and now the house roof. Needlesstosay, it's been a stressful and expensive year.
I did manage to control of my temper when dealing with my son. It did help that I participated in a support group for parents of gifted children--I now understand why he does things. I also got involved in my son's sports activities--I joined the local little league board.
I did apply for a few career opportunities and was called in for an interview; unfortunately, nothing matured. At least it gave me practice.
I also continued to visit the gym and stay fairly healthy. I've made it a point to stay positive even if I'm stressed or things aren't going my way.
In 2009, I posted 10 new years resolutions, which I only met one of them at the end of the year; however, I did much better in 2010 and 11.
This year, however, I have decided to not make resolutions but just welcome life as it comes.
