What should I do about Ned?

I found shelter for our family dog, Chato. He'll be staying at a doggy hotel at $30 the night. However, I totally forgot to find a place for one of our most important pets--Ned.

Ned isn't demanding. He flutters about when he thinks I am looking at him. At times, he does talk to me. He tells me about his day swimming around the tank and the annoying noise coming from the cheap pump.

The one thing he hates most is when my five year old son or I tease him with a finger puppet of a fish. He hates it. The thought of another fish around his territory simply angers him.

But what am I to do with our pet betta, Ned.

Family Vacation - Oahu

On Thursday, our family is headed to Oahu. It's our annual summer family trip we've started our five year old was a few months old. Although, as he has gotten older the distance has expanded from a few hundred miles to a few thousand miles.
Last year, we were fortunate enough to have two summer trips--Oregon and Maui. This year, our summer destination takes us to Oahu for ten days. Yes, that's right, ten days.
What are we going to do for ten days? I've wondered the same thing; however, my wife has put together a comprehensive list of sights and activities we are to do during our visit to Oahu.
The thing I am looking forward on doing is finding reefs to snorkel, and beaches to built sand castles. I am strongly considering learning how to surf and might attempt my first wave while I'm there.

I took this picture early this year at the Rochester Museum and Science Center in New York state. These are actually live roaches and they are this big.

Imagine coming across this critter at night in the kitchen. Yuck!

A whole day date

My wife and I had a whole day to ourselves. It was a great treat for us--our son is with his grandparents in South Texas. Although we missed him, this was an opportunity for my wife and I to enjoy the things we are limited to do with our five year old.

Yesterday morning, we started with breakfast at Casa Garcia's, before going to the driving range and hit some golf balls. We spent almost two hours at the Tejas driving range. Blisters prevents my wife from hitting more balls.

After the driving range, we drove around Pflugerville looking at homes--something our son hates to do with us. We did see many nice looking houses at good prices. However, leaping into another home at this current time, in this economy, is very risky.

We then spent a good while looking at sports equipment at Dick's. My wife found interest in fitness equipment, golf bags, and tennis racquets, while I was looking at things to take for our trip to Oahu.

Afterwards, we went to Hanovers for a beer and a couple of games of pool. I totally recommend Samuel Adams Summer Ale. Great tasting beer.

After my wife beat me at pool and I drank the final drip of my beer in defeat, we headed to Baris' Pizza and Pasta for some appetizers.

We returned home to freshen up before heading to the Alamo Drafthouse to watch Harry Potter 6. The movie was quite good and as expected leaves the audience wondering what happens next--of course, those of us who read the books knows how it all ends.

Although my wife had to leave for another trip this morning, our whole day date was fun. I sure do enjoy spending time with my wife.

Oahu in 19 days

Nineteen days from now, we'll be in Oahu, Hawaii for our annual family summer vacation. Actually, my wife has business in Oahu; although, she'll be able to take a few days off from her job to spend time with us and enjoy the island.

Last year, we were fortunate enough to spend several days in Maui. My son, who was four last year, and I spent the days building sand castles. We also experienced the best food, the best beaches, and the greatest natural scenes. It was splendid. Maui No Ka 'Oi.

This year, we are spending our days on the island of Oahu. From what I have read sofar, the island offers a whole lot of things. Probably because it is where the Capitol of Hawaii is located. Waikiki Beach is also found here and many other tourist destinations. Turtle Bay and the North Shore are a couple of sites I've heard plenty about.

For the past few weeks, we have watched movies filmed in Hawaii such as Blue Hawaii, Blue Crush, Hawaii with Julie Andrews, Riding Giants, and 50 First Dates. We watch these movies in an attempt to absorb and appreciate Hawaii.

Today, we went to Academy to purchase the several items we'll need for our trip to Oahu. We purchased a snorkel set, goggles, and a kid's life vest. I am still searching for either a cheap waterproof camera or a bag for my Canon Powershot camera. I'm also in search for either a tarp or a small tent to take to the island.

Needlesstosay, we are absolutely excited for our family summer vacation to Hawaii.

C.A. Butt Building

C.A. Butt Building

This is absolutely hilarious. Last May, the family took a vacation to Oregon. While driving around Portland, we found ourselves in the Sellwood-Westmoreland neighborhood. As we were stopped at a traffic light, we noticed the C.A. Butt Building. We had to get a picture.

Well, I noticed that yesterday that same picture received 54 views off my Flickr account. I wondered why 54 people found interest in the picture, so I did a google search and found that it was a topic of discussion my one Twitterer, luvzwool (http://twitter.com/luvzwool/status/2474544782).

North Korea and Hawaii

I was flipping channels and came across a report from Fox News regarding North Korea's Kim Jong-il's interest in launching a missile towards Hawaii this July 4th weekend.

The Christian Science Monitor raises the question as to whether a North Korean missile can reach Hawaii on their headline. The article further cites a US Congressional Research Service (CRS) report:

In theory, yes. Pyongyang has ballistic missile technology that technically, if it worked to perfection, could throw a small payload across the 7,100 kilometers or so that separate the Korean peninsula from Honolulu...

But later ensures the reader that a missile endangering the islands is "quite small." Furthermore, according to reports, US has deployed antimissile interceptors to the region and islands to stop such event.

The tension is also being felt in the surrounding area as Japan fears they are in the crossfire of North Korea's threats towards US. Russia and China are willing to open dialogue with North Korea and it's nuclear programs.
